Sit down: the body is relaxed but not in a position to sleep.
Sit still: the body expresses the whole person’s attitude of attention and reverence.
Keep your back straight: the body is alert and wakeful.
Breathe normally: ideally from the belly.
Be relaxed but alert: the formula for peace.
Gently close your eyes and begin to recite your manta or prayer word such as Ma-ra-na-tha (John Main), "My God My All" (St Francis) or you may focus on your breath.
Repeat your prayer-word throughout the time of your meditation.
