Threshold Living

by Marsha Crockett

After the Advent waiting has exploded into angel songs and heavenly hosts celebrate the arrival of Emmanuel, “God with Us,”  then we arrive at that threshold where we enter again into the promise of a new creation, a new covenant, a new age of grace and truth.  I think it right that Christmas Day is set at the end of our calendar year, creating a figurative present-moment threshold that allows us to step from the past and into the future.

For years my “rule of life” has incorporated a year-end practice of examen that allows me to gather all that God has given, the graces and the truths of the past year that have led me to this threshold moment. It calls me to spread out my hopes, my desires and my prayers for the future before God and to spend time in his presence in stillness and thanksgiving.

I’m excited about new opportunities this year beginning with a day retreat entitled “Near to the Heart of God: Crafting Your Rule of Life.” This day offers the gift of time to reflect on the past, present and future, to explore your deepest values and priorities, to uncover calling and mission and to consider those “rules” or disciplines that will focus your attention on path to deeper intimacy with God. If this sounds like a path you need to walk, I invite you to journey with me on Saturday, January 8, 9AM - 3PM.  Register now as space is limited.
