May "Scent" of the Month - Geranium, Pelargonium x asperum
May “Scent” of the Month
Geranium, Pelargonium x asperum
By: Michelle Jereb
What? It is MAY already! How did that happen? I completely blew through April. The Tea Tree essential oil worked so well in March for my Spring de-cluttering, I think I tossed out April and with that I didn’t write a “Scent of the Month” article. So here we are in May :). May is alive with feminine energy as Mother Earth blesses us with her “blooming” abundance. Look around you --- her flowers are everywhere. May is also the month we honor our mothers. Geranium is the perfect essential oil for May because “she” supports the feminine energy and embodies the spirit of Spring.
Geranium emotionally and spiritually:
· Encourages and inspires creativity --- the “birthing” of new ideas
· Opens up the imagination and intuition
· Promotes a sense of security and stability
· Increases one’s ability to give and receive
· Opens the heart chakra
· Reduces anxiety and is mood uplifting
Therapeutically, Geranium has wonderful anti-microbial properties, is an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and astringent. Geranium is also a “cicatrisant” (skin healing) and is hypotensive (blood pressure reducing).
Like any fine/ expensive perfume, the aroma of Geranium goes a long way. She is a “powerful” woman. When blending with Geranium, blend “drop by drop”—“add one drop – stop and smell, before you add another drop”. Geranium brings a wonderful scent to any blend, “IF” you don’t use too much.
Essential Oil Use for this Month:
(This lotion not only smells nice, it is very skin healing too!)
1 oz. bottle
1 oz. “unscented” Lotion

Orange (Sweet), Citrus sinensis x 6 drops (Spring Time Energy)
Add the essential oils to your bottle. Roll the bottle in your hands to blend. Add your unscented lotion. Use a glass stirring rod or slender popsicle stick to blend.
Use your lotion within 60 days.
SAFETY: Geranium is generally considered safe, but remember ALL essential oils are to be used with caution. NEVER apply any essential oil to your skin directly. ALWAYS use a carrier medium.
