As a spiritual director it can feel very humbling and isolating as one listens to another’s spiritual journey. A good supervision practice allows the spiritual companion a safe place to process feelings and awarenesses. Entering into a supervision practice gives the spiritual director many gifts while also allowing them to develop their own gifts as a spiritual companion.
If you are feeling a call to accompany spiritual directors as they companion others it is important to develop the skills that will be the most helpful. This training program is for experienced spiritual directors who have been practicing a minimum of 2 years and who seek to serve as supervisors for practicing spiritual directors, spiritual directors in training or are looking to form a peer supervision group.
The time will begin with a 3-day intensive followed by 5 months of individual supervision and training with faculty by Skype, phone, or in person which are set up between the faculty and the participant.
Over the 6 months the course will focus on:
the purpose of supervision,
the process of supervision, including four modalities,
the importance of self- awareness, a contemplative practice and deep listening,
the gifts of reflection and vulnerability in skill development,
developing deeper practices of discernment as applied to supervision.
Due to the nature of the course a pre-interview is required before acceptance.
